The recent $500 bonuses issued by Medium really made me stop and think.

Depending on where you’re from, $500 is either a weeks work or half a days contracting. Hey, for some it’s an hour of billable time.

For some of my friends in Cambodia and PNG it’s a half a years wages.

But without the privilege of a great education (and the ability to write and speak English) the opportunity is outside their immediate grasp.

I was reminded of this challenge (privilege) of language when I recently read Helena Han talking about learning english within 4 years.
